Fiona Shaw
Hi, I'm the founder and owner of Brethrens Barbers. I'm originally a Vidal Sassoon stylist and current creative stylist for Disney Productions.
I originally opened Brethrens Barbers at Santa Pod racetrack and in the early days our little Fiat 500 was commonly seen being ragged down the track while on our lunch breaks. I also worked in barber shops after moving out of the London area and quickly noticed that many barbershops lacked a sense of a real community, positive customer service and decorum on the shop floor. It was about "bums on seats" and making a quick £. I had a vision of a place being the hub of the community, trained with children and adults with sensory and learning superpowers and a safeplace for everyone no matter of age, sex, race or identification. I had spent my own life trying to fit assumed moulds or trying to prove myself, fit in, so to have a place everyone can just be "themselves" was what ive spent the last 5 years building.
I'm a trained mental health practioner aswell as trained in learning and sensory needs. Ive not had a child yet that i have not won over in the chair.
My Brethrens community is a mixed bag of awesomeness. A range of different folk that just works because the shop is welcoming, friendly and fun.
It's obvious we cut hair but why do our clients/community come back time after time? It's the people that create the atmosphere in the shop. A fresh cup of coffee and a biscuit. The Harleys parked out front or the hot rod cars. The scalextric and donuts days aswell as the community events we all get involved with.
Or may be coming in with a chat with the infamous "The Shop Inspector".
Theres many reasons why we are loved at Brethrens Barbers and the awesome haircuts are just one of many.
